Evan Hunter (aka Ed McBain)

Evan Hunter distinguished himself with his very first book in 1954, The Blackboard Jungle. Another notable title of his is Strangers When We Meet which was made into a film and he supplied the screenplay. He also did the screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. He has also written other screenplays, teleplays, short story collections and children’s books.

 

Also, as Ed McBain, Evan primarily writes the 87th Precinct novels the first of which appeared in 1956 and the 50th novel, The Last Dance, appeared in 2000. However, he also writes the Matthew Hope novels as Ed McBain and a few standalone novels.
